HOW TO OVERCOME VISIBILITY BLOCKS AS A SOUL-LED BUSINESS OWNER
Welcome to the SOUL-LED & SUCCESSFUL SERIES.
This is letter four, so if you’d like to start from the beginning you can find letter one by clicking here.
LETTER FOUR:
Have you noticed that running your own business has the unexpected side effect of bringing every tiny insecurity to the surface? This is why so many of the most successful entrepreneurs are also deeply invested in their own personal and spiritual growth. As a soul-led business owner, I know this is true for you too.
I remember when I first started my business as a way to avoid going back to my work as a Diversional Therapist, I was so intoxicated by the potential of online business. Until I realised that buyers would not just magically find my website all by themselves. I would have to market myself. Suddenly I'd gone from avoiding answering phone calls at work whenever possible, to having to show my face, speak my truth, be active on social media, do sales calls and actually talk about my work. This triggered a barrage of self-doubt. The biggest one for me was "I'm not charismatic enough to do this work (aka I’m too boring and shy)."
What was it for you? Was it "I'm not experienced enough," "I'm too introverted," "I'm not pretty enough," "what if I get negative feedback?" And just so you know, I thought all of these things!
Or maybe for you it looks slightly different. You're amazing at getting visible but the process of constant content creation is absolutely exhausting you, so your insecurity stems from not being able to keep up and still experience a sense of ease.
I feel fairly confident in saying that every single soul-led, heart-forward woman has faced self-doubt and insecurity around getting visible at some point in her business. It is really, really tough, but it's also not the end of the story.
When we're in the throes of questioning ourselves, of comparing ourselves to others, of doubting ourselves, we tend to lose a bit of perspective. I say this from personal experience, so no judgement!
We think that the only way to get visible is to do what everyone else is doing. If our coach is doing Instagram lives to create connection and buzz, we have to do that too. If we see someone say they had a $30k launch from a live challenge, we have to do that too. If we see someone say the best way to create an audience of warm leads is by running a Facebook group, we have to do that. If we see someone successful say that the only way to overcome your resistance to visibility is to go live every day for 6 months, we feel pressured to do it. Not because those things are the right choice for us, but because we don't want our fear to be the reason we fail.
But when we're stuck in this place of overwhelm we get laser focused on the process of visibility and forget about the actual goal of visibility.
Let me show you what I mean:
Let's say the goal of your visibility content is to create connection with your audience so they feel comfortable and excited to buy from you.
You see someone you admire online achieving this goal through talking on Instagram stories every day. The self-doubt perspective tells you that if you want to be successful you have to speak on Instagram stories everyday. If being on stories doesn't feel natural to you, you've just piled a lot of pressure onto yourself and reinforced any beliefs that tell you you're not good enough.
In contrast, the self-aware version of you would see the same woman creating connection by talking on IG stories, but would say to herself "ok, I don't love IG stories so what are some different ways I can create connection that feel better to me?" Same situation, totally different response.
Maybe you could create connection through taking a selfie and sharing your heart through text in a carousel post. Maybe you could create a pre-recorded training because you don't mind being on camera as long as you can edit it afterwards. Maybe you create a free private podcast where your audience can experience your voice and your heart through audio.
There are always alternatives and that is just the most beautiful thing.
The key is to take ownership of your mindset and your personal / spiritual growth, so that any doubt or fear you experience doesn't become your whole story.
In every moment you get to choose to call back your power and move forward as the most brave, purposeful, capable version of yourself.
This version of yourself knows that things won't always be easy but she trusts herself to handle whatever comes her way. She knows this work is her soul's work and that being able to share it with the world means being able to get visible. She also knows that her soul-fit clients will be magnetised to her when she shows up as her true self and that means finding a way to get visible that leverages her gifts, protects her energy and supports her personality. If you're craving support with this work I invite you into You Are The Magic, my free audio experience where we lean into figuring out how to do business your way while ensuring you feel your most powerful and peaceful every day.
In your corner always,
